100th anniversary of the National Music Academy of Ukraine

With the support of Maksym Tymoshenko, President of the national environmental charity organization Green Cross Ukraine.

November 3, 2013 there will be a solemn Divine Liturgy and a thanksgiving on the occasion of the 100th anniversary about foundation of the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine, and 5 November gala evening at the National Opera of Ukraine.

Almost half of the story since the founding of the Kiev Conservatory (1913) - now the National Music Academy of Ukraine - is linked with the name of the organizer and developer of the national art education, outstanding national creator, eminent rector Oleg Semenovych Tymoshenko (1932-2010). When Oleg S. Tymoshenko took the leading post at NMAU as Rector (1982 -2004) a new phase began related to its stabilization and a powerful transformation into a reference center of musical-vocational education not only in Ukraine. This period in the history of the Academy became an explosive result of its integration into the international space where the creative institution powerfully presented the national culture and thus has received worldwide recognition. Almost 50 years of his life Oleg Tymoshenko was selflessly devoted to work at the Kiev Conservatory, which, thanks to his focused and determined work and efforts of the entire team, was the first among creative establishments of Ukraine which received the status of National University.

The multi-faceted organizational and creative activities by Oleg S. Tymoshenko (a member of the Boards of the Ministry of Culture and Arts of Ukraine, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Academician, Founder of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, Academician and Secretary of the music branch of the Academy of Arts of Ukraine  Professor, Folk Artist of Ukraine, Full Cavalier of the Order For Merit, member of the National music Committee of Ukraine under UNESCO, member of the Coordination Board of the European Association of Conservatories, President of the Association of Public Figures for Music Education and Training of Ukraine, Chairman of the Supervisory Boards of the Children's Academy of Arts, the National choir "DUMKA", long-standing Member and Chairman of the Committee on Culture of Kyiv City Council and others) historically fixed a key vector of the NMAU status oriented on its future harmonious development. High international prestige of the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine which was created by Oleg S. Tymoshenko, now defined the prestige of education in this university for foreign students from Europe, Canada, Latin America, Asia, Africa and the Middle East and many other countries.

January 31, 2002 in Geneva important event took place: the prominent politician, Nobel Peace Prize, Founding President of Green Cross International, Mikhail Gorbachev and Founding President of Green Cross Ukraine, Rector of the National Music Academy of Ukraine, Academician, Professor, Folk Artist of Ukraine Oleg S. Tymoshenko signed the "Agreement on the Recognition between the Green Cross Ukraine (GCU) and Green Cross International (GCI)".

June 7, 2012 Maksym O. Tymoshenko was elected president of the national environmental charity organization Green Cross Ukraine. Green Cross Ukraine (GCU), who honorably continues the work of his father on the development of the environmental movement and philanthropy in Ukraine.

Long-term cooperation between Oleg Tymoshenko and Green Cross International and Green Cross Switzerland made possible the implementation of the international SOCMED program in Ukraine. As part of the binomial for more than 13 years projects have been implementing to provide medical, social and educational support to vulnerable sections of the population, in particular - the victims of the accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Within the international SOCMED program Green Cross Ukraine fruitfully operates in five regions of Ukraine (Zhytomyr and Zhytomyr region, Bila Tserkva and Bila Tserkva area, Slavutych, Pereyaslav-Khmelnitsky and Pereyaslav-Khmelnitsky area, Gorlivka, Donetsk region).

International SOCMED programme in Ukraine is aimed at the formation of the responsibility of the country’s population for the future of their children, their physical and spiritual health. The program provides the acquirement of self-aid methods for people to be able to find their own solutions and be active.

  • children and teenagers with chronic diseases caused by the consequences of the Chernobyl accident, constantly living  in the contaminated area
  • children and teenagers, whose parents are liquidators of the Chernobyl accident
  • children from large and single-parent families
  • low-income families
  • children living in ecologically unfavorable regions of Ukraine
  • orphans
